Producer's Note from the program
Past Shows - 1997 Bye Bye Birdie
Good evening to all of you. On behalf of the cast, crew, directing staff, and orchestra I'd like to welcome you to the Peter Quince Performing Company's 29th show in as many seasons. The entirety of the company has been eagerly preparing for our three night run with great enthusiasm and dedication. Everyone from the stage to the pit to the office has put their all into the past couple months (in some cases longer) to make Quince a great experience not only for themselves, but also for the audience. We hope that you enjoy watching the show as much as we do producing it.

This season is a very special one for two reasons. First of all, opening night marks the first ever "Peter Quince Day" in the city of Manitowoc. It is a very exciting occasion for the company and the community. This day has been set aside to acknowledge the opportunities Peter Quince provides to young people and the hours of dedicated preparation that go into each show. We are all very proud to be part of an organization that is being honored for its contribution to the community.

I would also like to make it known that this year's show is dedicated to the memory of Jim Ihde, one of the original members of Peter Quince. Jim was an active member of the company from 1969-74, but he was also a lifelong supporter. At a great loss to his family, friends, and fellow Quincers, he passed away on October 10, 19995. In memory of him we perform tonight.

I'd like to thank all of our corporate sponsors. They are an important part of our financial support, and without them there would be no Quince. I'd also like to thank Steven Alpert who was kind enough to lend us space to rehearse and build in.

So please, sit back, relax, and enjoy this upbeat production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Directors' Note from the program
Past Shows - 1997 Bye Bye Birdie
If there is one phrase that sums up theater in general and Quince specifically its "expect the unexpected." Any theater company that sets out to perform a full scale musical with a troupe of actors as young as ours is bound to experience a few surprises. What is so amazing about Quince is the way the company uses adversity to push harder rather than give up. A director can hardly ask for anything more.

Transforming a forty person cast, a couple cans of paint and some scrap lumber into the show you see today in only a handful of weeks is a minor miracle, and by no means could I have done it alone. So I'd like to take a moment to thank those who never seem to get enough recognition: Kim Pare and Justin Miller, Sarah Tegen, and our technical directors Terry Weller and Amanda Wagner who never said "It can't be done." Also thanks to the business office side of Quince for finding us the money to keep this project going. And last, but certainly not least, the cast, who through all the confusion and madness stood tall and gave it everything they had.
